Letter to Thomas Moses, Jr. (3)

Hawleyton November 2, 1862

Dear Sir,

The following resolution and preamble was unanimously adopted today by the Sabbath School of Hawleyton.  Also an amendment that a copy of the same be sent to each one who had been connected with the school and are now in the army.

Whereas we look around upon this group of Sabbath School Scholars and Teachers and realize the fact that there are those who have been accustomed to meet with us whose faces greet us no more.  We would not shut the truth from our hearts if we could, and we could not if we would, that they have left our ranks for the ranks of the Army, that instead of being Soldiers in our Sabbath school they are soldiers for our country’s defense- Gone forth to protect these very institution which we today enjoy from sacrilege and ruin.

Therefore: Resolved that we extend to them our warmest sympathy in their trials and hardships and our firmest hope and earnest prayers for their safety and success.

It gives me pleasure to communicate this expression of remembrance from the school to you.  If the Soldier’s life is hard, if sickness overtakes you, it may be cheering to know you are not forgotten by Sabbath School.

Yours truly,

Wm. Blanding, Supt.
